Create a Calm Down Jar!
Calm down jars engage visual focus and give a child (or adult) time to breathe and regroup. This hands-on family workshop will allow families to get creative and have fun together as well as produce a beautiful sensory tool that they can incorporate into their lives to help relieve stress, anxiety, and handle other big emotions.
In this program, we’ll not only teach you how to make a calm down jar, but provide tips for parents, caregivers and children about how they can use it to relax and as a launching point for having conversations about their feelings.
If you would like to follow along with us in real time, here are the materials you will need:
- Large clear bottle or jar with a lid (preferably plastic)
- Clear dishsoap, superglue, clear Elmer’s glue, or corn syrup
- Glitter, Glitter glue or other small sparkly objects
- Food coloring or Liquid watercolor
- Warm Water
- Spoon, wisk, or stick (chopstick, skewer, etc) to stir
- Optional: Funnel, measuring cups, ribbon, stickers, sharpie
