Brown Bag Speakers Forum: Communicating Across Lines of Political Difference
In this polarized era, how do liberals and progressives talk with Trump supporters and other conservatives without deepening the divide? Erica Etelson, author of Beyond Contempt: How Liberals Can Communicate Across the Great Divide, will talk about her efforts to "speak the truth but not to punish" -- to express her anger, fear and grief without disdaining or shaming her political adversaries. A lifelong social and environmental justice activist and former human rights attorney, Etelson shows how progressives can stay true to themselves and true to the cause while at the same time honoring the humanity of those who stand on the other side of the great divide.
