National Drug Take Back Day

National Drug Take Back Day

Have unwanted or expired prescription medications? Officers from the California Department of Public Health will be collecting unwanted medications at the Castro Valley Library on Saturday, October 26, 2019, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.  Bring your unused or out-of-date medications, no questions asked.  It's all part of the Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

Drop off potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs and other medications for safe disposal and destruction. These drugs can be a source of supply for illegal use and an unacceptable risk to public health and safety.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Many Americans are not aware that medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, many Americans do not know how to properly dispose of their unused medicine, often flushing them down the toilet or throwing them away – both potential safety and health hazards.
