Tween Book Club: New Kid
Are you a 4th-6th grader who loves to read? Join us for a book club with like-minded readers, where we'll discuss books and do cool activities. This month, we're discussing New Kid, a graphic novel by Jerry Craft.
Seventh grader Jordan Banks loves nothing more than drawing cartoons about his life. But instead of sending him to the art school of his dreams, his parents enroll him in a prestigious private school known for its academics, where Jordan is one of the few kids of color in his entire grade. Jordan soon finds himself torn between two worlds—and not really fitting into either one. Can Jordan learn to navigate his new school culture while keeping his neighborhood friends and staying true to himself?
Register online to attend. Speak with a librarian to pick up a free copy of New Kid to keep (supplies are limited). Tweens signed up on this month's waitlist will get first priority for any open spaces for our next book club meeting.
