Words and Color: Postcards from My Past
Create a beautiful piece of art in celebration of your culture and heritage!
Participants will be introduced to the practice of Wellspring Writing in which the instructor will read selected poems on the theme of cultural heritage and personal history and then lead you in a writing exercise using the poems as prompts. After an opportunity to share your writing with fellow classmates you will then select one or two words, phrases, or sentences from your writing to incorporate into a collage. Lushly hand-painted paper, modern and vintage print images, rubber stamps (some hand-carved), and art pens will be available for your use. You may also bring photocopies of 2 to 3 images and documents, in multiple sizes, from your family's collection. Each person will leave with a 6" by 8" piece of frameable or mail-able art.
Writing instructor Mary Purpura and artist Maria Moesch will be your guides. All materials and snacks will be provided. Advance registration is required and space is limited. Please register only for one session (either February 17 or March 24) beginning January 28.
